Health of body and mind is the mainspring of action the wheel that puts all the machinery of the world in motion. It is generally considered to be the special boon of heaven. To some extent, this is true, as one man inherits from his parents a much better constitution than another. But experience has proved, that far more is depending upon proper care, than on original stamina, as to health and enjoyment. One of the greatest evils which young people have to struggle with is, not knowing how to take proper care of themselves. They do a thousand things to their injury, which they would not, did they know how to manage themselves. On these points they need instruction, and a text-book on this subject seems as necessary as one upon Grammar, or History, or Natural Philosophy. The diffusion of so much knowledge among the young as shall enable them to preserve their health of both body and mind, is their only road to safety, happiness, and usefulness. Take the young Lady. She desires beautt. She is anxious to look and appear well. To attain this end, she expends much upon dress and cosmetics.
