Horror Editorial Review
** The Giant Behemoth (Blu-ray Edition)** The Blu-ray release of "The Giant Behemoth," a classic 1959 monster film directed by Eugene Lourie, has garnered a mixed yet largely favorable reception among fans of vintage cinema. While the technical enhancements made to the film, specifically the cropping of a visual error during a key scene, has sparked debate, many viewers appreciate the effort to present the film without distracting flaws. Although purists might decry such alterations, the Consensus suggests that the quick fix effectively salvages an otherwise endearing movie experience. The Blu-ray transfer is noted for its impressive clarity, unveiling details often overlooked in earlier formats. The film's black-and-white aesthetics remain intact, and while some argue that the aspect ratio of 1.78:1 isn’t entirely accurate, it satisfies the viewing experience without major complaints. The film's suspenseful narrative—centered around a duo of scientist-detectives unraveling the mystery of a radiation-spewing dinosaur—has stood the test of time, with performances from Gene Evans and Andre Morell receiving commendation. However, not all feedback is complimentary; the audio commentary included in this release is criticized for lacking depth and seriousness, compared unfavorably to a comedic commentary one might find on "Mystery Science Theater 3000." Despite this, "The Giant Behemoth" remains a compelling watch for dedicated fans and newcomers alike, offering a nostalgic dive into the world of classic monster films. **
