Type Editorial Review
Naked Earth (NYRB Classics) is a profound literary work that delves into the harrowing experiences during Maoist China, capturing the essence of a surreal yet chilling historical period. Eileen Chang's brilliant prose offers unmatched insights into life and love amid the turmoil of early communist rule. The narrative’s depth is enhanced by detailed portrayals of political purges and the realities faced by characters navigating relationships while disseminating propaganda. This novel, published by NYRB Classics, also includes a significant introductory essay by Perry Link, which provides context to the themes explored within its 336 pages.
