This diffusion pump must be used in conjunction with a mechanical vacuum pump to ensure optimal performance. Before using the diffusion pump, it is important to wash and dry it thoroughly. Then, inject vacuum silicone oil or any low vapor pressure oil through the elbow pipe orifice.
It is crucial to note that the oil should not be poured directly into the pump orifice. Instead, use a long pipe funnel to pour the oil from the funnel into the pump, preventing oil accumulation in the trap. The amount of oil consumption is dependent on the pump's specifications. For pumps with an oil return pipe (Level 3), the oil should pass through the lower port of the oil return pipe.
For pumps without an oil return pipe (Level 4), the highest notch should just pass through. It is essential to maintain the correct amount of oil, as too much or too little oil will degrade the pump's performance. The top branch pipe of the pump is directly welded to the glass system and fixed with an iron frame. The outlet nozzle of the elbow is connected to the mechanical pump with a vacuum rubber pipe.
To facilitate air flow control and protection, it is recommended to add a safety bottle and a vacuum piston between the diffusion pump and the mechanical pump. The bottom heating tank of the pump is an electric furnace, typically 500W / 220V, controlled by a voltage regulating transformer. During voltage regulation, it is advised to gradually boost the voltage and heat the pump, avoiding sudden maximum power that could cause glass cracking due to uneven heating. Connect the branch pipes of the cold water wall and water-cooling baffle to a cooling water source and start the mechanical vacuum pump. Only when the pre-vacuum reaches 1-10-2mmhg or you hear the regular sound emitted by the mechanical pump, can you connect the power supply for heating.
Failure to do so may result in oxidation and deterioration of the diffusion pump oil, affecting the acquisition of a vacuum.
